Hi everyone,

We are now recruiting new mentors for the upcoming year (Fall 2016-Spring 2017), this is a perfect opportunity for you if you’d like to help a first year, take them under your wing, and share your experiences about how awesome SFU BPK really is.

A BPK Peer Mentor is a third of fourth year who is super awesome and looking to help ensure that the transition from high school to university is as smooth as possible for a new student.

The Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology Student Association (BPKSA) and BPK Co-op are pleased to invite you to the annual Careers in BPK Event on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. The event will take place at SFU Burnaby Campus, Saywell Hall Atrium from 4:30-8:00 p.m. The cost of admission is $2.00 at the door and will include:

Pre-event lab tours for BPK student only, from 3:30-4:20 (there is a separate registration link for the lab tours, please see below for details)
Employer Exhibits / Exhibitor Fair from 4:30 – 6:45 p.m.
2 Breakout Session
Dinner
Draw Prizes

If you want advice on future career plans, bring your resume and questions to the Exhibitor Fair as Career Services will be available to provide resume feedback. Some exhibitors will be accepting applications.

As you may already know, the BPK Peer Mentorship program is a great way to start out your undergrad career at SFU. You will be paired up with a senior BPK student who is knowledgeable about BPK and SFU in general. Your mentor will act as your social, community, and academic guide for your first year at SFU.

If you were wondering how to get your hands on some awesome BPK swag, look no further, you’ve come to the right place.

This year we have a new design for our classic t-shirt collection, featuring the very lungs that help you breathe. The t-shirts are the same fit and same colours, so if you have the heart and brain t-shirt already, you should definitely add this one to your collection.

Due to popular demand, we have included two new items this year: Dri-fit T-shirts and Crewneck Sweaters. 

Ordering is very simple: print the order form, select what you want, and drop off the form and your money to us in front of the BPK Main Office. We will be collecting forms from 11:00AM – 2:00PM on March 4th, 5th, and 6th Make sure you drop it off on one of those days because the 6th is last day we will be collecting forms.

Careers in BPK – Jan 20th

How do you know a career is really for you? Our annual career night approaches so sign up by clicking here!

Find out first hand what it is like to be a Physician, a Kinesiologist, a Physiotherapist, a Dentist and many more. This night will give you insight on how to use your BPK degree to work towards one of these excellent careers and help you learn a little more about the ups and downs of each field.

There will certainly be excellent food and raffle prizes. As always there will be key speakers to represent each main field, many booths featuring a large variety of employers for everything from Massage Therapy to WorkSafeBC. (Bring your resume to hand out to employers to line up a sweet summer job)

In addition there will be two lab tours featuring Dr. Wakling’s Neuromuscular Mechanics lab and Dr. Victoria Claydon’s Cardiovascular Physiology lab. If you are interested in these lab tours please sign up through Simplicity.

BPKickoff

Hey BPKers! We have our second annual BPKickoff happening Thursday, September 11th!

BPKickoff Poster
A fun filled day where you will meet some new people and enjoy some delicious food BBQed by your very own profs.

This free day includes tours of various BPK stops, a passport with some information on surviving your first year, and also a tour of 3 exciting labs. Best of all this is all free!!
