Opening:
The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 1:30pm by Garveen in room K9622.
In Attendance:
Garveen, Megan, Erina, Emily, Alam, Bader, Matt, Elaine, Caleb, Darleen
Open Issues:
1) Clothing Sale
-AQ tables booked July 4,5,6 from 11am to 2pm for clothing order drop off
-selling old clothes, re-ordering toques and dri-fits as well as ordering the new hoodie
-advertise through the BPK Digest, Facebooks posts, screen outside BPK office, emails
-Garveen will send out a Doodle poll, please sign up for shifts!
2) NGO Burma Border Projects
-a BPK student is involved with a youth mentorship program for children who are displaced from Burma and are refugees in Thailand
-she is launching the second term of the program and is asking for funding
-Garveen will contact her to find out some more information
3) Fall Kickoff/BPK Orientation
-Welcome Back BBQ is scheduled for September 15th from 11:30am-1:00pm
Tentative schedule:
– 12:00 – 12:30 – Registration at the BBQ (Give Bingo game to encourage talk with the faculty, prize for the winner)
-12:30 – 12:40 – Opening Speaker (Darleen? Richard?)
-12:40 – 12:50 – Move to the big field
-12:50 – 1:10 – Icebreakers?
-1:10-1:15 Commute to Lorne Davies Building for SFU Physiotherapy and SFU Rec presentations
-1:15 – 1:35 Presentation 1
-1:35 – 1:40 Rotate Groups
-1:40- 2:00 Presentation 2
-2:00– 2:10 Commute to the KIN Building for lab tours (CV Lab & Neuromuscular Mechanics)
-2:10 – 2:30 Lab tour 1
-2:30 – 2:35 Rotate Groups
-2:35 – 2:55 Lab tour 2
-2:55 – 3:15: Snack & Wrap Up
-next week we will talk about BPK Orientation (brainstorm ideas this week!)
4) Kin Cup
-gym bookings may be difficult this time of year due to summer camps
-Megan will talk to Tony to see if he thinks it’s feasible
-Garveen will talk to Matt to see if the grad students are interested
-Kickball, Ultimate, Softball (slow pitch?), Soccer
-the 3rd week of July should be a good time (July 19, 20, 21?)
5) Career Workshops
-Erina is meeting with Darleen, Sophie & Brenda about creating some career workshops for BPK students specifically
-could have her attend BPK Orientation to introduce this idea to the first years
