3) BPK 101

-we had 28 students attend!!

-winning scavenger hunt team of 6 each got $5 Starbucks gift cards and Darleen gave us two BPK bags for the two door prizes we handed out

-every student received BPK swag bags, they were just missing Frisbees so these will be handed out at Kickoff

– Had students fill out “What is the most intimidating part about coming to SFU?” and we had Diana and Brent address these concerns during the speaker series

-Common themes:

-Exams, making friends, loneliness, time management/finding a balance, volume of coursework, knowing where to access help, where to study, size of lecture halls

-Other concerns:

-walking into class late, needing to go to the washroom during class, transferring into BPK, romance!

-21 students filled out the Feedback form:

-Did you enjoy the event? (4.71 / 5) (all responses were 4 or 5)

-Was the event informative (4.67 / 5) (all responses were 4 or 5)

-Do you have any questions left unanswered?

-One specific question about how to cater your major towards a career in nutrition.

-“Twas lit”

-One student wanted to learn more about co-op and asked when to apply?

-Do you have any suggestions for this event next year?

-“Twas lit”

-Longer if possible! Sad that it ended so fast.

-Keep it just as fun, very well put together.

-More tours of labs.

-More info about BPKSA

-4 comments about having more games, some said more icebreaker/name games (one made the comment they didn’t know everyone’s name still), one suggested an activity involving the whole group (not just teams) so you had the chance to interact with everyone, one said make the scavenger hunt longer

-overall we had a great turnout and great feedback! Seems like students want the event to have more of a Frosh-like feel so next year should include more games and icebreakers

-after Kickoff this week we will email the students who attended each event to thank them for coming out and invite them to attend BPKSA meetings throughout the semester

4) Clubs Days

-unfortunately there were no tables left when we went to book

-instead we can book AQ tables in the next few weeks and advertise the BPKSA there

-will also look at ways we can promote the BPKSA/reach out to students at the next few meetings

5) Elections

-will be held next Thursday September 22nd at 11:30am, room TBD!

-we still are looking for someone to run for the position of Secretary, please email Garveen/Megan at bpksa@sfu.ca if you are interested!

The meeting of the BPKSA was adjourned by Megan at 1:20pm in the BPK Graduate Students Lounge. The next meeting time is Thursday, September 22nd at 11:30am, the room is TBD – please check your email for this!
