3) BPK Kickoff Debrief

-thank you to everyone who attended and helped out!
-22 students attended (50% 1st years, rest were a mix of 2nd/3rd)
-most students went to the BBQ right away, few came to the conference room (next time just register them at the BBQ, students had no issues finding it)
-had to cut out icebreakers as we started the event a bit late and then the welcome speech went a little long as we had Darleen, Sophie, Angie & Richard all speak
-next year make sure we have a leader in both the front & back of the group when walking to/from tours so we don’t lose part of the group

-have all tour volunteers exchange phone numbers
-Feedback:
-11/22 responses (this was just about all of the students that were left at the end of the day though as some left to go to class throughout the event)

Did you enjoy the event? (4.4 / 5)

Was the event informative? (4.9 / 5)

Do you have any questions left unanswered?
-any labs doing urology research?
-when do I chose my major/specialize my degree?
-how to apply for a student trainer position?

Do you have any suggestions for this event next year?
-visit more labs
-very Kin focussed, add more BP focus
-don’t start late
-more advertising to increase turnout
-more co-op info

-next year could change the schedule of the event so we have two blocks of tours which would hopefully increase turnout

-could also make sure to include more of a BP-focussed lab (i.e. one of the MCPG labs)

-could also combine aspects of 101 and Kickoff and hold a longer event on a Saturday (involve tours, scavenger hunts, games, etc)

4) BPK Career Question Sessions

-the department will be holding drop in career advising

-Monday Oct 3rd and 17th from 2-4pm in K9620 (BPK Co-op Office) with Career Advisor Brenda Badgero
-these two sessions will be a test run to assess the response from our undergrads/grads -if there is a lot of interest, the sessions will be held on a biweekly basis

The meeting of the BPKSA was adjourned by Garveen at 12:20pm in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11:30am in the BPK Graduate Student Lounge.
