Wednesday July 2, 2014

 

Opening:

Meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 12:30 by Shaila in AQ 5017

 

In Attendance:

Shaila, Debbie, Leandra, Mohammad, Garveen, Jake, Matt, Steven

 

Open Issues:

 

àScience World: Science of Sport

  • 20 people showed up, good turnout
  • Science World charged adult rate, but grant money covered it
  • Debbie motioned to reimburse Shaila $295 for the Science World Event. Leandra seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved
  • Maybe do the event again since it was successful!

 

àPeer Mentorship program

  • Josh posted documents for the mentorship program on the website
  • BPKSA executives who want to be mentors, apply ASAPàTraining is on July 26
  • If you are planning on being a mentor, get your profile to Josh ASAP

  • Executives: If you haven’t sent your blurb about your favourite class and why you like it, plus your photo to Matt, send it ASAP: mrbutt@sfu.ca
  • Get the Course Description for your assigned course to Matt

àkeeping the logo, incorporating biomedical physiology and neuroscience into there

  • Use t-shirt design of neuroscience and biomedical physiology: brain and heart

àJosh: do what you like for the layout of the website; just keep it simple and easy to operate

 

àOpen executive positions for the fall

  • Will discuss this at next week’s meeting

 

àBPKSA Baseball Event

  • Joyce and Loryn attended the Rec baseball event
  • Maybe include it as an event for the BPKSA since it was so much fun!
  • Keep it non-competitive
  • Debbie will ask Rec how to book the field
  • Can play both kickball and baseball
  • July 21, 2014 (Monday) around 5:30àmay change date according to when the field is booked; will hear more about this from Debbie
  • Have snacks for the event: freezies, brownies, juice boxes, granola bars
  • Borrow the ice for a cooler from Physio
  • Once Debbie has booked the field, she will let us know so the Facebook event can be made

 

àBPK Career Event

  • Need to start planning the career event in advance
  • Places to hold the event: applied science building or saywell hall
  • Pros and Cons:
  • Saywell: Can only book the week before, more open and less cramped
  • Applied Science Building: can be booked 3 months in advance, too cramped, has a food room that can come in handy
  • SAYWELL WINS!
  • Back-up plan: Book the Applied Science Building and then Saywell the week before, and then cancel the Applied Science Building
  • Will talk to Darleen and Cheri about this plan

 

àBPK Trivia for the Kick-off

  • Garveen will help Debbie out with the trivia and talking to professors
  • Debbie will send the list of professors to be interviewed to Garveen

 

Adjournment:

The meeting of the BPKSA was adjourned at Shaila at 1:20 pm. The next meeting will be held next week Wednesday July 9, 2014 in AQ 5017 at 12:30 pm.
