Opening

The meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 12:35pm on Friday, June 14, 2013 in AQ 5004 by Steven.

In attendance

• Steven, Matt, Dora, Brent, Megan, Loryn, Debbie, Neetu, Xelliece, Michelle

Open Issues

• BPK Orientation Passport
  • booklet format
  • a guide to the event (contains a schedule, map, info on presenters) as well as proof that students attended the event (students will collect 2 stickers after talking to a faculty member; there will be 2 pages to collect stickers on)
    • one page remains in the booklet and can be shown to profs as proof that they missed their class for the event
    • one page is detachable and has room for their name and email and after collecting a certain amount of stickers the page can be put in a prize draw for clothing, gift cards etc.
  • include a page with tips to ensure students don’t fall behind in their studying (tips provided by Craig)
  • need the finished passports a week before the event

    • Schedule (see below)
    • Overview of SFU Rec, SFU Physio, Strength & Conditioning, Peer Health (summary of what they do and links to their website for more details)

• BPK Orientation Schedule
  • SFU Rec, SFU Physio and Strength & Conditioning have all confirmed (just waiting to hear from Peer Health)
  • if we have 4 presenters the presentations will be 15 min each and if we have 3 presenters they will be 20 min each (the tentative schedule below shows the 3 confirmed)
  • Joyce is speaking at the UPC meeting next week to find two more labs for touring (Max Donelan’s lab is already interested)
  • will have two WebSurveys:
    • Registration WebSurvey:
      • first and last name
      • student number
      • email address
      • intended major
      • day(s) they plan on attending
    • Follow-Up WebSurvey
      • Loryn will draft the questions

Wednesday September 11^th

• 11:30-11:45 Registration/Split up into clans led by BPKSA members
• 11:45-12:00 Quick Welcome (explain who we are and that this is the first time we have put on this event)
• 12:00-12:15 Travel Time to First Stop of SFU Tour
• 12:15-12:35 Presentation #1
• 12:35-12:40 Travel Time
• 12:40-1:00 Presentation #2
• 1:00-1:05 Travel Time
• 1:05- 1:25 Presentation #3
• 1:25-1:40 Walk back to the Lecture Hall (give students a snack on their way in)
• 1:40-2:25 Info Session
  • BPKSA (who we are, what we do (Meetings, website, Careers in Kin, Kin Cup, Kin Games, YEP), give small intro to upcoming presenters with their face shots ie. when you see Michelle for Advising come prepared with questions) (15 min)
  • Main Office (Laurie will discuss FAQs) (5 min)
