Meeting Minutes

September 30th, 2009

Opening

  • The regular meeting of the BPKSA was called to order at 12:33pm on September 30th, 2009 in the ASB 9896 by John Abreu-Lanza.

In attendance

  • John, Lauren, Blaine, Torny, Brent, Stephanie, Lucia, Richard, Claire, Rob, Sandra

Approval of Agenda

  • The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.

Approval of Minutes

  • The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed.

Open Issues

  • Kin Cup
    • $31.25/ hr to use half of the central gym
    • $100 to buy tape for the mats
    • $100 to move the mats
      • Blaine motions to have the mats removed in order to use the whole gym, Brent seconds, vote: all in favour
    • event will start at 6:30pm and end around 9:30pm or 10:00pm
    • $325.00 for the gym and up to $100 for food and water
      • Richard motions to allocate $500 for the gym rental and food, Stephanie seconds, vote: all in favour
    • vote on posters at next meeting and put up posters on Friday
    • find a schedule of Kin classes for speeches
  • Fall Social
    • Criminology is interested in hosting a social together
    • External Relations Officer will compile a list of other DSUs and ask if any are interested in collaborating on a Fall Social
    • advertise more this year
    • last year, $2 beer worked out well but money was lost on pizza
    • invite profs and TAs and give them a special drinking price (ie. 50% off)
      • one free drink if you wear DSU gear is another possibility
    • maybe rent Rockband
  • Geek Week (last week of January)
    • we can tie in Careers in Kin (more advertising this way)
    • Wednesday January 27th, 2010 is the tentative date
    • invite med students, physiotherapists, entrepreneurs in Kin, chiropractors, paramedics, athletic therapists, dieticians, strength and conditioning coaches, specialists in sports medicine, occupational therapists, ergonomists, clinical research physiologists, Co-op, SFSS, Faculty of Science, BPK department and include tours of labs and info on Co-op grad programs
    • wait until after Kin Cup to start advertising for Careers in Kin
    • ask Stephen Price to help conduct surveys regarding last year’s Careers in Kin event
  • Miscellaneous Business
    • Act Now BC sent an email to John asking Kin students to be ambassadors
    • Pemberton Resort sent an email to John asking if BPKSA held ski trips
    • CSEP sent an email regarding cheap all-day passes to the annual general meeting in 2010

Adjournment

  • Meeting was adjourned at 1:16pm by John Abreu-Lanza. The next general meeting will be at 12:30pm on October 7th, 2009 in the Seminar Room.
